Karachi Kings completed the win they needed to make it to the qualifiers, edging Lahore Qalandars on net run-rate after they swept Quetta Gladiators aside by 14 runs on the last day of the group stage. After putting up 176, the Kings needed to defend 32 off the last over with Jack Wildermuth on strike; a delicious bit of symmetry after Danish Aziz had smoked 32 off the bowler during their batting innings – in a 33-run over – to completely change the course of the game. That blitz, a 13-ball 45, propelled the Kings to a total that was too much for the Gladiators, who finished the season with only two wins in ten games.Naseem goes off, Danish goes boom
After taking the ball to start the 19th over, the Gladiators’ Naseem Shah began hobbling immediately. He could barely get a few steps into his run-up, possibly because of cramp on a hot day, and the ball eventually went to Wildermuth, who had struggled early on and struggled once again.Danish, who got an inside edge for four first ball, took complete control – hitting the next four balls for six. Instead, the win was rooted mostly in the performances of their frontline pacers – Amir, with his economy and a second consecutive slog-overs performance of high quality; Mohammad Ilyas, who picked wickets almost every time he came on; and Arshad Iqbal, whose skiddy, back-of-a-length plan that looked unplayable in the early stages of the innings.The wickets always seemed to be around the corner, despite a rather safe approach to the chase. The one instance of a batter being fearless came late, with Hassan Khan swinging his bat around for a 15-ball 24; but even after that injection of momentum, the score was 123 for 5 in 16.5 overs when he fell. Until the 17th over it was only spin, with left-arm spinners Hassan and Arish Ali filling bowling out their overs. Only 83 came in those 12 overs.The Gladiators came into this game with nothing to play for, which allowed them to play a second emerging player in the XI alongside Khurram Shahzad. Arish hadn’t played at senior level before, but went away with an impressive haul and a statement before the next season.Arish came on in the 11th over, after Abdul Nasir had strangled the Kings and dismissed Azam the previous over. Martin Guptill gave him a wicket off his very first ball, lofting a full one straight to long-off. Sharjeel was already in at this point, and was looking to push on against the left-arm spinner. But he only managed a chopped four past short third before playing on attempting the same shot again, the result of a simple plan from Arish – spin it in from outside off against the left-handers on a pitch that was offering grip and turn.With the Kings trying to rebuild, Arish was in his element. In the end, Najibullah Zadran chopped him on trying the late cut as well. With the way he was going, Sarfraz even asked him to come on in the 17th for his last over – and that resulted in the wicket of Imad, caught at long-on. That made it three left-handers dismissed on his first day in senior cricket.

It has been a slow start to the campaign for Man United, despite the fact the club had quite a successful transfer window, given they added five players to their squad and moved out a lot of deadwood in the process.

But it is just one win in their opening three games of the Premier League season, and that form is already seeing Ten Hag come under significant pressure. The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Leverkusen, and he doesn’t wish to extend his stay beyond that, meaning he will become a free agent next summer. That has alerted Man United, who are said to be keen on signing him on a free transfer unless Leverkusen decides to sell him in January.

But while the Red Devils are keen on signing the centre-back, they also face competition from Premier League rivals Liverpool and Chelsea. The German international has been with Leverkusen since July 2015, and during that time, he has played 357 times for the Bundesliga side, scoring 14 goals and recording 12 assists.

Tah, who has been described as a "defensive battleship" by former teammate Christoph Kramer, played a significant role in Leverkusen’s success last season, playing 31 times in the Bundesliga, as they were crowned champions, as well as playing six times in the DFB-Pokal, as they claimed a domestic double. The centre-back was also key in Europe, but his side fell short in the final as they were beaten by Atalanta.

Andrew McGlashan20-Jul-2021Mitchell Starc took a five-wicket haul as he and Josh Hazlewood dismantled West Indies in the opening ODI to give Alex Carey, who had earlier played a key hand with the bat, a winning start as Australia’s ODI captain.Carey, standing in for the injured Aaron Finch, had formed the backbone of Australia’s innings with Ashton Turner in a fifth-wicket stand of 104 in 19 overs before Hayden Walsh Jr sparked a late collapse with a career-best five-wicket haul.However, Australia’s 252 – which was adjusted to a target of 257 after three rain interruptions cut the match to 49 overs – quickly looked imposing as Starc and Hazlewood got to work with the new ball to leave West Indies in a heap at 27 for 6. Starc took three wickets in his first spell and then returned to end the aggressive rearguard of Kieron Pollard. Pollard hit a 41-ball fifty, but the West Indies captain had been left with far too much ground to regain.Starc, whose form had improved through the T20I series, removed Evin Lewis first ball with a low return catch from a leading edge and then produced a trademark inswinger to castle Jason Mohammed. On a surface where the ball was occasionally going through the top from the quicks and offering some turn for the spinners, timing wasn’t always easy and Australia’s innings became harder work against good spells from Hosein, who bowled his ten overs straight through, and Joseph. Moises Henriques’ difficult 24-ball stay ended with a top-edged a sweep to short fine-leg and when McDermott – who had only faced 48 balls in 25 overs – nicked the deserving Joseph to slip, Australia were 114 for 4.By then Carey had already opened his boundary account with a slog-swept six off Hosein and after a second rain break, he took consecutive boundaries from Mohammed’s part-time offspin.Turner was given a life on 12 when he pulled Cottrell towards long leg but Mohammed could not hold a low chance as he ran in off the boundary. That was in an eight-over period where Australia did not find the boundary against some tight bowling from Walsh Jr and Joseph.Carey began to kick things on when he brought up his fifty with a flat six over long-off, which was followed next ball by a scooped four off Holder. Turner then started to find his range with back-to-back sixes off Holder – the first a strong blow over wide long-on followed by a top edge over the keeper – before another rain interruption.Walsh Jr had been held back until the 29th over by Pollard but then conceded barely three an over for the majority of his spell. In his eighth over, Carey missed a sweep to lose his leg stump and Turner top-edged to deep square one short of his fifty, which was followed by Starc and Matthew Wade picking out fielders deep on the leg side in a five-wicket haul that took 16 balls to complete. But in the end, though, Australia had more than enough.

Aston Villa’s first Champions League game since 1982/83 ended in an emphatic 3-0 victory away to Swiss side Young Boys.

The Villans were superb after initially struggling to adapt to the plastic pitch used at the Wankdorf Stadium, an unfamiliar surface given they play on the carpets of the Premier League week in, week out.

After negating a tough first 25 minutes or so, Unai Emery’s side grew into the game, eventually opening the scoring through a well-worked set piece. The Midlands club outsmarted the Swiss champions, with Youri Tielemans finding space from a John McGinn cross to volley home from inside the penalty box.

Moments later, Jacob Ramsey doubled his side’s lead, pouncing on a scrappy piece of defending to slot home in composed fashion. Ollie Watkins thought he added a third but his goal was disallowed due to handball.

Villa dominated the second half, too. Jhon Duran, who has been in superb form this season, had a goal of his own ruled out after a handball from Amadou Onana in the build-up. Onana did add the third, however, with a well-struck effort from outside the area which nestled in the corner.

It was a dominant win for the Villans, with some standout performances along the way.

Villa’s attacking threat vs. Young Boys

The away side were certainly destructive in their attacking play against their Swiss opposition on Tuesday night. According to Sofascore, they had 20 shots on Young Boys’ goal, hitting the target seven times and forcing five saves out of goalkeeper David von Ballmoos.

Their performance was so impressive that the Villans actually exceeded their expected goals tally. Emery’s side had an expected goals total of 2.18, but, of course, scored three times thanks to strikes from Tielemans, Ramsey and Onana.

It was certainly a clinical evening for the Villans, who can be pleased with their night’s work. They tested the goalkeeper plenty of times and managed to score their only big chance of the game. It no doubt made for pleasant viewing for Emery.

Among all of the good performances from the Premier League side, there was one player who stood out compared to all of the rest. That player is Villa academy graduate Ramsey.

Ramsey’s stats against Young Boys

Making his second consecutive start for the Villans after playing from the off against Everton in last weekend’s 3-2 win, Ramsey was able to score his first goal in the Champions League for his boyhood club and immediately looked at home on the biggest stage.

It was a chaotic finish after he pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area, which he brought out from under Watkins’ body, who was languishing on the ground after being tripped up. The Villa number 41 showed great composure as he slotted the ball into the far corner to double his side’s advantage.

Indeed, it was such an impressive performance from the 23-year-old midfielder that he earned an 8/10 rating from Goal journalist Richard Mills. He pointed out Ramsey “looked a threat down the left wing”, calling him a “nuisance all night” for the Swiss Champions.

The stats via Sofascore certainly back up that claim. The Villa academy graduate had 56 touches, completed 95% of his passes from which he created three chances, and succeeded with 100% of his dribbles. Off the ball, he worked hard too, winning four from five ground duels.

وتعادل جالطة سراي مع فناربخشة في الدوري التركي سلبيا، قبل أن يطلق جوزيه مورينيو تصريحات اعتبرها منافسه أنها عنصرية.

جوزيه مورينيو في تصريحاته قال بعد ديربي اسطنبول: “دكة بدلاء جالطة سراي كانوا يقفزون مثل القردة”.

وأدى هذا التصريح إلى غضب شديد داخل مسئولي النادي التركي والأوساط الرياضية التركية، واعتبر مسئولو جالطة سراي أن هذا التصريح يحمل إساءة للشعب التركي وبالتالي يجب فرض عقوبة على المدرب البرتغالي.

وأصدر الاتحاد التركي لكرة القدم قراراً بإيقاف جوزيه مورينيو لمدة 4 مباريات بالإضافة إلى تغريمه 35 ألف جنية إسترليني كعقوبة على ما بدر منه من تصريحات عقب نهاية مباراة ديربي أسطنبول.

وبالتالي سيغيب المدرب البرتغالي عن 4 مباريات فناربخشة القادمة أمام كل من أنطاليا سبور، سامسون سبور بالإضافة إلى بودروم وطرابزون سبور.

ويحتل فناربخشة المركز الثاني في سلم ترتيب الدوري التركي برصيد 58 نقطة، بينما يأتي جالطة سراي في المركز في صدارة ترتيب البطولة برصيد 64 نقطة.
