Sheffield United have now made an enquiry over the potential signing of a “fantastic finisher” who has been impressing in the Championship this season, according to a report.

Blades vying for promotion

The Blades are in a strong position to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, currently sitting third in the Championship, but they may feel some reinforcements will be necessary if they are to secure automatic promotion.

Chris Wilder is clearly keen to strengthen his squad in attacking areas, having now submitted a £2.9m bid for NEC forward Sontje Hansen, although there will be competition for his signature from Ligue 1 side Lens.

Ben Brereton Diaz is also set to move to Bramall Lane, as a loan deal has now been verbally agreed with Premier League strugglers Southampton, and there is set to be an option to make the move permanent in the summer.

Wilder is personally driving the move for the striker, but there are signs the 57-year-old may be keen to bring in more than one new forward this month, as The Daily Mail report Sheffield United have now made contact over a deal for Lewis Koumas.

Koumas signed a long-term contract with Liverpool before going on to join Stoke City on loan in the summer, and he has been a regular starter for the Championship club this season, attracting the attention of some of the top sides in England’s second tier.

Watford and West Bromwich Albion are also named as potential suitors for the 19-year-old, with the Blades’ Championship rivals also of the belief he could give them a boost in their bids to gain promotion to the Premier League.

However, the Potters believe they will be able to keep hold of the youngster, as they look to improve their league standing in the second half of the campaign.

Koumas could boost the Blades' promotion push

The Welshman is a natural-born goalscorer, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp describing him as a “fantastic finisher”, and he has been on the scoresheet for Stoke four times this season in all competitions, despite often playing out wide.

The 19-year-old’s attacking talents were also on show at Anfield last season, scoring the only goal of the game in the FA Cup fifth round as the Reds edged past Southampton 1-0 with a youthful starting XI.

Given the starlet’s age, there are aspects of his game he needs to improve, as pointed out by former Stoke boss Narcis Pelach, who said: “He needs to improve his defensive game and we’re trying to work on the details because he doesn’t control his steps very well, so his defensive position is not great, but his energy and speed and the willpower is impressive.

Koumas clearly has bags of potential, and his experience in the Championship this season stands him in good stead to make an instant impact at Bramall Lane.

وانتقد يحيى ما وصفه بـ”الأيدي المرتعشة” داخل منظومة كرة القدم، قائلًا: “هذه الأيادي المرتعشة هي التي تسببت في ما وصلنا إليه، يجب أن يكون هناك حسم وثقة ومصداقية”.

وأبدى طارق استياءه من تقديم زيزو شكوى ضد الزمالك، مضيفًا: “الزمالك صاحب فضل على كل من انتمى له، نحن لنا مستحقات متأخرة منذ أن كنا لاعبين ولم نشتكِ، فما بالك بزيزو؟ ما حدث إهانة للنادي، وكان يجب عليه أن يكون واضحًا منذ البداية ويخبر الإدارة بأنه وقّع للأهلي، بدلاً من ترك الأمور غامضة”.

وواصل: “أن يشترط والد زيزو رحيل مجلس الإدارة من أجل استمرار نجله، فهذه كارثة! وصلنا لمرحلة لا تُصدق. لا يمكن أن تكون هذه تصرفات زيزو، يبدو أن أحدهم ورّطه”.

واختتم: “لا ألوم النادي الأهلي إن كان قد تفاوض مع زيزو، فهو لاعب مميز، ولكنني ألوم اللاعب نفسه، كان الأجدر به احترام عقده وناديه وجمهوره. ما جرى هو سقطة كبيرة كان يمكن تفاديها بالقليل من الصراحة والاحترافية”.

There needed to be no reminder of the bigger, and far more important, picture playing out in Sri Lanka but on a day of extraordinary scenes around the country the cricketers managed to focus on their task at hand and put together a tremendous fightback against Australia.It started by removing Australia’s last five wickets for 35 runs, left-arm spinner Prabath Jayasuriya finishing with the second-best figures by a Sri Lankan on Test debut. Then captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis built a stand of 152 in 46 overs, Sri Lanka’s highest second-wicket partnership against Australia, before Karunaratne fell 14 runs short of a century to Mitchell Swepson. At the close, Kusal was within 16 of his second Test hundred against Australia.It all unfolded against the backdrop of major anti-government protests at the ongoing economic crisis in the country. Protesters in Galle were prevented from travelling to Colombo for the main rally as the government blocked public transport and fuel sales.Crowds quickly swelled and marched around the stadium before making their way to the iconic Galle Fort which had been closed to everyone following the forced removal of protesters during the opening Test. By the lunch interval, the protest had relocated outside the gates of the ground and during the afternoon session grew in size and noise.Australia have been very aware of the bigger picture throughout this tour and before play Pat Cummins posted a video on social media in association with UNICEF where he spoke to two young female cricketers about the impact of the crisis.On the field as the game continued, Sri Lanka turned the tables on Australia in a manner that had appeared unlikely. Taking the lottery out of the contest by producing a more even surface has, so far, worked although they will not want to concede a first-innings lead as batting last is still unlikely to be a comfortable task.Australia’s early breakthrough came courtesy of a brilliant catch in the gully by Cameron Green who leapt full-stretch to his left to grab Pathum Nissanka’s outside edge off Mitchell Starc. Barring those moments, though, the stand was largely untroubled with Kusal especially serene. The first boundary of the innings had not come until the 15th over amid early pressure from Australia’s bowlers, but the pair were then quick to latch onto anything loose, of which there were a number of offerings from Swepson’s first spell and a slightly off-colour Nathan Lyon who struggled to consistently find the right length.There was much more work for the quicks (Green bowled for the first time in series) with Australia searching for the reverse swing which had been such a weapon in Pakistan but there wasn’t much on offer amid two ball changes. Cummins also went for a spell of short-pitched bowling, which would probably not have been Plan A or B for the captain after how the first Test played out.The half-centuries came at a comparable rate – Karunaratne 109 balls and Kusal 118 – and overall Sri Lanka scored at 3.61 during the final session as Australia struggled to replicate their early hold on the run rate. It was a return to Swepson that made the difference when, in his first over back, he skidded one into the pads of Karunaratne who knew he was gone but appeared to be talked into a wasted review. Karunaratne’s 86 was his best score against Australia, the country he has struggled most against, and just his third half-century in 19 innings.It was a much-changed scenario from the start of play. Australia had resumed on 298 for 5 and it appeared they were tracking well towards 400 as Steven Smith and Alex Carey extended their partnership to 77. However, after Carey top-edged a reverse sweep to be taken deep on the off side none of the lower order could stay with Smith for a substantial amount of time.That was soon followed by a superb catch at slip by Kusal to remove Starc, after an outside edge flew very quickly, which gave Jayasuriya his fifth wicket. In the end, Jayasuriya’s debut figures sat behind only fellow left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama’s 6 for 92 against Bangladesh last year.Smith largely tried to farm the strike with No. 11 Swepson for company but Sri Lanka were able to end things before it became too frustrating. The final wicket went to another debutant, Maheesh Theekshana, who opened his account by removing Swepson lbw when there was one ball of the over to survive, leaving Smith unbeaten on 145.

Sheffield United are in advanced talks to sign a replacement for the injured Oliver Arblaster after a green light from manager Chris Wilder.

The Blades got back to winning ways in the Championship over the weekend with a 2-1 victory at Watford to close the gap on leaders Leeds United, who dropped points in a 3-3 draw with Hull City.

Wilder’s side would actually be top of the division if it wasn’t for their two-point deduction at the start of the campaign, and the January transfer window allows those at Bramall Lane to bolster the squad depth.

Taking ahead of the FA Cup clash with Cardiff City and if there will be any new faces signed in time, Wilder recently said: “Potentially. We’re working overtime. There’s incredible support from the owners and Stephen Bettis [chief executive officer], who are also working overtime. They see what everyone else is seeing [about the squad’s strength] and the supporters are seeing it as well.”

There have been plenty of players linked with moves to Sheffield United as well, with a deal reportedly agreed for Ben Brereton Diaz to return to the Blades on loan from Southampton.

Meanwhile, a “multi-million offer” for NEC attacker Sontje Hansen has reportedly been made by the Blades and now, a new midfielder could be on the way to Yorkshire to replace captain Arblaster, who ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the derby win over Sheffield Wednesday back in November.

Sheffield United in advanced talks to sign Choudhury

According to Football Insider, Sheffield United are in advanced talks to sign Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury, with Ruud van Nistelrooy open to a loan exit for the 27-year-old.

Wilder has given the green light to a transfer for Choudhury, who he regards as an ideal replacement for Arblaster.

The Foxes midfielder has found game time hard to come by in the Premier League this season, playing just 130 minutes in the top flight. Choudhury has 83 games of experience under his belt in the second tier, though, so he could be a shrewd addition after helping Leicester win promotion last season.

He’s also come in for praise from former boss Enzo Maresca, who hailed Choudhury after making three goal line clearances against West Brom back in April.

“I’ve never seen three goal-line clearances from one player. He played as a goalkeeper at times. Hamza is probably the only guy whose contract we renewed this season. We made him one of the captains. With us, on the pitch and off the pitch, he has always been very good.”

A return to the Championship with the Blades could be just what Choudhury needs, and also what Wilder requires to fill the void of Arblaster between now and the summer, making this one to keep an eye on over the coming days and weeks.

Gloucestershire allrounder turns down new offer to return to club where he came through

Benny Howell has agreed a return to Hampshire, after turning down an offer to remain with Gloucestershire. Howell, 33, has signed a three-year white-ball deal with the county where he initially came through before leaving in search of further opportunities a decade ago.The allrounder, who last month won his first England Lions cap, has developed a reputation on the global T20 stage for his “fast spinner” variations, playing in the Bangladesh Premier League, Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League and being signed in this year’s IPL auction.Howell helped Gloucestershire lift the 2015 Royal London Cup and reach T20 Finals Day in 2020. He took more than 300 wickets across the three formats across 11 seasons in Bristol – including 142 in T20, with an economy of 7.17.His short-form skills saw him play a key role in Birmingham Phoenix getting to the final of the inaugural edition of the Hundred, and his arrival will strengthen the hand of Blast champions Hampshire ahead of their title defence in 2023.”Benny is recognised as one of the best T20 allrounders in England and it’s great that he wants to finish his career where it began,” Giles White, Hampshire director of cricket, said. “He adds great depth to our squad and improves both our batting and bowling resources. Wolverhampton Wanderers fell on Tuesday night, the latest in a growing line of Premier League sides unable to stand against the unabating Newcastle United storm.

The 3-0 win at St. James’ Park made it nine straight wins across all competitions for Eddie Howe’s men, with Alexander Isak’s brace extending his scoring run to eight top-flight fixtures in succession. But Anthony Gordon also got in on the spoils and continues to be a pillar of strength for the Magpies.

The January transfer window is in full swing and Newcastle could perhaps do with one more part to complete their frontline. Technical director Paul Mitchell may have the perfect winger in his sights.

As has been reported in recent weeks, Newcastle have an interest in Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo, and could choose to strike before the month is up.

Chiefly behind such claims, Miguel Almiron has been green-lit for an £11m return to Atlanta United over the pond, freeing up space and PSR breathing room.

Newcastle will face stern competition from Liverpool, who have been put off by the Cherries’ £50m winter price tag and could reevaluate their intrigue at the end of the season.

There’s a glorious chance to steal ahead here, and PIF need to ensure they get it done, mirroring Gordon with a right winger of interesting likeness.

What Antoine Semenyo would bring to Newcastle

Newcastle already have a complete and tricky winger in Gordon, but he’s patently at his zenith when plying from the left flank. Semenyo’s expertise on the alternate suggests that he could work in conjunction with the Three Lions star, supplying Isak while overlapping to strike on goal himself.

Content creator Alice Abrahams said this of the 25-year-old’s quality: “A ball carrier with pace, power, and real athleticism. His ability to drive at defenders and create is outstanding.”

The left-footer ranks among the top 2% of Premier League attacking midfielders and wingers this season for shots taken and the top 16% for successful take-ons per 90, as per FBref, perfectly illustrating the above praise.

Hailed as an “unreal talent” by Premier League analyst Umir Talks, Semenyo has the burgeoning clinical edge to succeed under Howe’s wing, also athletic and combative enough to bring the fluent and many-angled skill set that Gordon provides so neatly on the left.

Gordon was awarded Newcastle’s Player of the Season for 2023/24 after posting 12 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, and he’s been excellent in recent weeks, going somewhat under the radar due to Isak’s brilliance.

When looking at Gordon’s statistics across the current campaign, you’re drawn to his completeness. Well, chuck Semenyo’s for Bournemouth into the table, and you see that Newcastle would sign a unique winger with Gordon-esque qualities, charging the United frontline with something wonderful and distinct.

We’ll go out on a limb here and posit that Newcastle’s attacking quality would only go from strength to strength with Semenyo added to the mix. After all, Isak’s striking true, Gordon’s wreaking chaos and Jacob Murphy continues to amaze with his industrious and creative approach.

Semenyo would complete the cake, reflecting Gordon’s prowess on the opposite flank.

وقال أحمد شوبير في تصريحات عبر برنامجه الإذاعي صباح اليوم الإثنين: “(أهو ومن بدري بقولها.. إحنا داخلين على مصيبة سودة في الدوري العام بعد ذلك)، نحن قلنا إن الموسم الحالي استثنائي، لأننا لا نعرف كيف نستكمل البطولة بشكلها الطبيعي، وقلت من بداية الموسم إن فكرة أن تلعب الموسم المُقبل 19 فريقًا فهي كارثية، لم أرها من قبل”.

وتابع: “الآن التفكير في كيف يتم إلغاء الهبوط.. هذه كارثة، قريبًا انتظروا الكارثة، بدأ الجميع يتحدث عن إلغاء الهبوط، وطبعًا لو تم إلغاء الهبوط في الممتاز سيتم إلغاء الهبوط في دوري المحترفين، وستدمر الدوري من 20 ناديًا الذي صنعته، وستعود وتُصعد 6 أندية وتُقسم مجموعات، وستقلب نظام الكرة المصرية بالكامل، الكرة المصرية مقبلة على منعطف خطير جدًا في الموسم المُقبل”.

وشدد: “طبق اللوائح والنظام لكي تنجح، نحن على أعتاب كارثة كروية تنظيمية، وأقول للمهندس هاني أبو ريدة (رئيس الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم) ضع أنت يدك (وبلاش اللهو الخفي) الذي يعمل بدون صفة رسمية”.

واختتم: “ما يحدث كارثة، الدوري المصري سينهار في سنوات قادمة، إذا تم التلاعب في هذا النظام لأنه سيؤثر على كل الدرجات الأدنى”.

تقدم نادي الزمالك، برئاسة حسين لبيب، بطلب رسمي إلى الاتحاد المصري لكرة اليد لترشيحه للمشاركة في بطولة كأس العالم للأندية لكرة اليد، المقرر إقامتها في مصر خلال الفترة من 26 سبتمبر إلى 2 أكتوبر المقبل.

ويستند الزمالك في طلبه إلى أحقية الدولة المستضيفة بترشيح فريقين للمشاركة في البطولة، بحسب لوائح الاتحاد الدولي لكرة اليد، حيث يشارك بطل السوبر الإفريقي مباشرة، بينما يحق للاتحاد المحلي اختيار الفريق الثاني من الدولة المضيفة.

وأكد النادي في خطابه أن مشاركته ستعود بالنفع على كرة اليد المصرية من الناحية الفنية، من خلال احتكاك اللاعبين بمدارس عالمية كفرق برشلونة الإسباني وباريس سان جيرمان الفرنسي، إضافة إلى الفوائد التسويقية والجماهيرية التي تعزز من قيمة البطولة محلياً ودولياً.

وأشار الزمالك إلى تجارب دول عربية أخرى مثل قطر والسعودية، التي شاركت بأكثر من فريق في النسخ السابقة من البطولة عندما نظمتها، موضحاً أن التنظيم يكون من حق الدول وليس الأندية، ما يمنح الاتحاد المحلي الصلاحية لاختيار الفريق الثاني.
