Sam Cook took a hat-trick as Essex beat the Kent Spitfires by four wickets in the Vitality Blast at Canterbury.The visitors recovered from an early-innings scare to close on 155 for 6, Matt Critchley hitting an unbeaten 63.Cook had taken 4 for 18 as Kent were held to 150 for 8, which actually represented a recovery. Joe Denly was the top scorer with 39 and Grant Stewart gave the hosts something to bowl at with 37 from 16 balls, but after slumping to 31 for 4, Critchley’s measured innings saw Essex home with 10 balls to spare.Kent’s decision to bat backfired when, having put on 32 for the opening wicket, they were rocked by a spell of four runs for four wickets in eight balls.Daniel Bell-Drummond got away with an ugly shot off Shane Snater that sailed over the boundary, but he hit the next ball almost vertically and was caught by Feroze Khushi for 22.Cook then sent Tawanda Muyeye’s stumps flying before getting Sam Billings caught behind for a golden duck and he claimed his first Blast hat-trick when Jordan Cox was plumb lbw.With under five overs gone the remaining batters had little choice other than to drop anchor and Jack Leaning had made nine from 20 balls when he hit Critchley to Daniel Sams at forward square leg.When Simon Harmer’s 15th over went for just two the old joke about it not being a test match leapt to mind, but the charge finally came in the 17th when George Linde hit Harmer for six, only to edge the next ball straight to Robin Das.When Cook bowled Denly, Stewart was left with the tail, but an eight-ball final over from Sams went for 27, including two sixes from Stewart, who was eventually caught by Das off the fifth legitimate delivery. A misfield allowed Kent to scramble two off the last ball, but the total still looked below par, until Essex started to bat.Fred Klaassen, back after missing the start of the Blast for personal reasons, had Khushi lbw with the second ball of the innings.It was one for two when Dan Lawrence edged Michael Hogan’s first ball down the leg side where he was brilliantly caught by Billings.Hogan then bowled Das’s middle stump for 11, breaking Sky’s stump camera and when Michael Pepper went for 13, skying Kane Richardson to Billings Essex were 31 for four, but Paul Walter and Critchley steadied their nerves.The former made 27 from 15 before he cut Stewart to Leaning and Sams chipped in with 17 before Linde bowled him.Critchley never allowed the run rate to escalate while Will Buttleman survived an lbw shout from Linde and then reverse swept him for four, before hitting Hogan for six into the Old Dover Road gardens.Fittingly Critchley hit the winning runs when he hit Joe Denly for six over cow corner.The win keeps Essex well in contention for Finals Day and a fifth consecutive defeat leaves Kent’s hopes of qualifying looking almost skeletal.

For Chelsea supporters with a vested interest in the England national team, this international break was a great deal more appealing to them.

That’s because Thomas Tuchel, a man who once occupied the Stamford Bridge dugout, is now in the Wembley hot seat.

He’s the head honcho of the England side, the man tasked with bringing football home. In America no less, in 2026, the German will hope to end 60 years of hurt.

If he’s to win the tournament, then a number of Chelsea players could well be key.

Cole Palmer missed the latest camp through injury but will no doubt play a big role next year having scored England’s only goal in last summer’s European Championship final. Doesn’t that feel like a long time ago now?

Much has changed for the Three Lions since then. Gareth Southgate departed his role, Lee Carsley took over on an interim basis and now Tuchel is at the helm.

He’s already sprung a few surprises, too, notably calling up Reece James.

When Tuchel announced his first England squad nearly two weeks ago now, there were a few shocks.

This was perhaps a moment to mark a changing of the guard, a moment to get rid of the old and bring through the new.

Well, the head coach decided to merge the two ideologies together, combining youth with experience.

Myles Lewis-Skelly, Arsenal’s exuberant 18-year-old made his debut and scored during the 2-0 win over Albania but even his inclusion wasn’t the most surprising.

That honour went to Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker who both now ply their trade on the continent with Ajax and AC Milan respectively.

Rivalling Walker for a place on the right-hand side of the defence was none other than James.

The Blues skipper has only played 14 times this season as he has his load managed following a string of injuries but Tuchel knows him well, having managed the 25-year-old on 74 occasions. For context, no other manager has used James more.

Speaking before the game with Albania, the boss was confident the full-back would stand up to the task.

Well, he certainly stepped up alright. Handed a rare England start in their 3-0 win over Latvia on Monday evening, it was James who opened the scoring.

The hosts won a free-kick on the edge of the area and it was the Chelsea captain who stepped up to take. Step up he did, curling a delicious set-piece past the goalkeeper.

While that goal will no doubt give Tuchel the confidence to select James again, it wasn’t just the attacking phases of the game that he impressed in.

The defender only misplaced one pass all night, had a whopping 118 touches, completed two tackles and made two interceptions. Forget about the level of opposition, it really was a complete performance.

However, while James caught the eye, the rest of Chelsea’s England contingent shouldn’t be too confident of a call-up next time around.

Chelsea's England hopefuls

There are a number of England prospects in the current Chelsea side, ranking from that man James to the likes of Jadon Sancho, Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke, somebody who actually assisted a goal during the Lee Carsley era.

While it wouldn’t be out of the realms of fantasy to suggest all three could be at the World Cup next year if they find form, one Chelsea player who is seriously unlikely to be there is Ben Chilwell.

The £200k-per-week left-back could have been the answer to their lack of options on the left side of the backline but the fact of the matter is there’s far more promising options coming through.

Take the aforementioned Lewis-Skelly for instance, take two former Chelsea boys in Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall too.

Both Lewis-Skelly and Livramento were in Tuchel’s first squad but Hall was unfortunate to miss out having sustained a season-ending injury a few weeks ago.

So, there’s two left-backs Chilwell would have to usurp and despite his Chelsea connections, someone like Luke Shaw who was at the Euros is probably still in their mind.

So, we’re up to three left-backs and if you count Colwill and Dan Burns’ ability to feature in that position, you’re looking at five players standing in the way of Chilwell. Add players like Tyrick Mitchell and Leif Davis to the mix and it looks quite bleak for the former Leicester defender’s hopes of an inclusion.

So, with Chilwell quite rightly not being called up for the matches with Albania and Latvia, it looks as though he’s already played his last game in an England shirt.

He’s played just 45 minutes of football for Chelsea this term and hasn’t exactly done a lot since a winter loan move to Crystal Palace was formalised, featuring in only five games and yet to start in the Premier League.

Barring a severe improvement in his injury history and game time, it’s unlikely we’ll see him in a Three Lions jersey again.

Aged 28 and once valued at £50m, that feels like a sad sentence to be writing.

Tawanda Muyeye’s T20 career-best knock goes in vain as Kent suffer seven-wicket defeat

For the second successive match it was Glamorgan’s leading run-scorers in T20 cricket, Colin Ingram and Chris Cooke, who secured an impressive victory, this time over Kent, in the Vitality Blast.The Glamorgan stalwarts shared a stand worth 109 after Eddie Byrom had set a strong platform as the home side chased down a target of 190 to win by seven wickets with 18 balls remaining.Kent’s innings had a strong start thanks to a career-best score from Tawanda Muyeye and a powerful finish thanks to their lower order but a stutter in the middle overs prevented them from setting a truly competitive total.This win was Glamorgan’s third from four matches while Kent now have two wins and two losses.Kent were put in to bat and it looked as if Glamorgan had made the wrong call as Daniel Bell-Drummond and Muyeye raced along inside the powerplay. It was Muyeye who was the main aggressor as 63 runs were scored off the first six overs with Jamie McIlroy and Zain-ul-Hassan struggling to keep the Kent openers under control.It was the introduction of Australian leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou that brought Glamorgan back into the game. Hatzoglou made the first breakthrough with his sixth ball of the game when he bowled Bell-Drummond for 19 as the Kent opener attempted a slog sweep.Joe Denly attempted to keep the momentum going as he smoked a massive six over the midwicket boundary to get himself off the mark. That attempt to inject some impetus didn’t last long with Denly’s dismissal the first of three in the space of just 10 runs as Hatzoglou and Prem Sisodiya did a good job of pinning down the Kent middle order to bring themselves back into the game. When Muyeye was dismissed for 62 his team were 103 for 4 after 11 overs with two new batters at the crease.Jordan Cox, Jack Leaning and George Linde did a fantastic job of covering up the cracks caused by that cluster of wickets as they all made meaningful contributions and Kent reached 189 for 6 off their 20 overs. The Cox innings was the most eventful, especially when he offered two catching chances to Kiran Carlson off two successive deliveries, neither of which were claimed by the Glamorgan captain.Glamorgan had a similarly quick start to their innings, with Byrom scoring 43 out of a 51 opening stand with Sam Northeast. Byrom smashed 20 runs from Wes Agar’s first over, and despite the bowler hitting his helmet he managed to guide the ball immediately after the blow over third man for six.Grant Stewart was given similarly brutal treatment and had conceded 19 runs from his first five balls before he had Byrom caught by Cox at mid-on.The one Kent bowler who kept things under control in the powerplay was Michael Hogan who was back in Cardiff for the first time since his departure from Glamorgan over the winter. Welsh cricket supporters were given a reminder of what they lost when Hogan made the decision to finish his career at Kent when his two powerplay overs brought just seven runs and the wicket of Northeast.A truly remarkable catch by Agar at fine leg ended Carlson’s innings but that brought together Cooke and Ingram who got themselves set before taking the game away from Kent in a stand that was professionally managed, with both batters happy to take boundaries when they were offered and singles when the ball was not there to be hit.It was a no-ball from Agar that took Glamorgan to their victory target as Kent failed to find any answers to the Cooke-Ingram partnership.

وحتى الآن وبعد نهاية دور المجموعات فقط، شهدت البطولة ظواهر غريبة على ملاعب كرة القدم، وهي توقف أكثر من مباراة لوقت طويل للغاية وصل إلى ساعتين ونصف!، الأمر الذي يسبب أزمة كبيرة ومعاناة للاعبين والأجهزة الفنية والجمهور والإعلام الذي يقوم بتغطية تلك المباريات.

مساء أمس، السبت، مباراة بنفيكا وتشيلسي قد توقفت في الدقيقة 86 بسبب الإنذار باقتراب عواصف رعدية ويجب إخلاء الجميع من الملعب حفاظًا على حياتهم، الأمر المؤسف هو مدة الإيقاف والتي استمرت 150 دقيقة كاملة، من أجل لعب 4 دقائق متبقية فقط في المباراة، توقفت لعدد دقائق يساوي مباراتين إلا 30 دقيقة!، ويبقى السؤال الأهم ما الذي ستفعله عاصفة رعدية في مباراة سوف تنتهي بعد 4 دقائق فقط؟.

الأمر الذي جعل ماريسكا، مدرب فريق تشيلسي يجن جنونه ويهاجم تنظيم الولايات المتحدة للبطولة بشدة وقال: “أعتقد أنها مزحة، إنها ليست كرة قدم، أمريكا ليست المكان المناسب لإقامة هذه البطولة”.

لكن هذه لم تكن المرة الأولى ولا الثانية ولا الثالثة بل السادسة!، والعدد قابل للزيادة حتمًا خلال فترات مقبلة من البطولة، توقفت 6 مباريات حتى الآن بسبب العواصف الرعدية وهم مباراة الأهلي وبالميراس، سالزبورج وباتشوكا، صن داونز وأولسان هيونداي، بنفيكا وأوكلاند سيتي وبوكا جونيور وأوكلاند سيتي.

الأزمة ليست فقط في الطقس بل الملاعب نفسها، نحن في 2025 والملاعب حتى الآن لا يوجد بها سقف أو تجهيزات على أعلى مستوى وتوفير كافة سبل الراحة للاعبين من تجهيز المكيفات عالية الجودة لعدم إرهاق اللاعبين وبالتالي سيعود ذلك بالنفع على مستواهم على أرض الملعب.

ريال مدريد في أول حصة تدريبية له قام بإصلاحات كثيرة من غرفة خلع الملابس وغرف الاستشفاء والاستحمام والكثير من الأمور التي لم تكن جاهزة، إضافة إلى شكوى دييجو سيميوني، مدرب أتليتكو مدريد من طول المسافة بين غرفة الملابس والملعب وأن الملاعب غير مجهزة بالشكل القانوني والمعتاد في أوروبا.

وسط تلك الأزمات والمدرجات الخالية بسبب غياب الحضور الجماهيري نظرًا لعدم اهتمام الشعب الأمريكي بكرة القدم، لم نقرأ في الصحف الأجنبية بكافة جنسياتها جزءًا من هجومها على قطر خلال استضافتها كأس العالم 2022، وشتان الفارق بين التنظيمين.

قرأنا تقارير تهاجم قطر بسبب منعها رفع علم “المثليين” خلال بطولة كأس العالم لمخالفة الدين الإسلامي والتقاليد العربية، وتم اتهامها بـ كبت الحريات، ورفض المنتخب الألماني هذا القرار ووضعوا أيديهم على أفواههم في صورتهم الشهيرة، إلى جانب الحديث عن العاملين الذي تضرروا من بناء الاستادات وحالات الوفاة التي حدثت والاستمرار بمنتهى الإصرار على التقليل من استضافة قطر للبطولة وتفشيلها بشتى الطرق.

والآن، ومع تكرار كل تلك الأزمات، لم يتجرأ قلم على مهاجمة أمريكا بسوء تنظيمها ومحاولة التقليل منها مقدار ما حدث مع قطر، وعلى سبيل المثال وليس الحصر، لن ترى صحيفة “جارديان” تكتب للاتحاد الدولي أنها اختارت “الموت” و”المعاناة” عن أمريكا مثلما فعلت عن قطر.

بات الأمر واضحًا أننا نرى بطولة كرة قدم في بلد لا تصلح لتنظيم مثل هذا الحدث، بل هي غير مهتمة للإصلاح ولا تكترث لمعاناة اللاعبين والمدربين، وليس دفاعًا عن قطر وحدها فحسب بقدر ما هو استغلالًا لعرض ازدواجية معايير الغرب التي طالت كل شئ، وجعلت أمريكا تصدر كرة قدم خالية من الحياة مثلها تمامًا.

O jogo desta quarta-feira (24) é essencial para o São Paulo. Caso saia com um resultado positivo, chega com mais tranquilidade para o duelo de volta, que acontecerá dia 14 de setembro no Maracanã. Assim, o fator torcida vai ser de grande peso, uma vez que ele não será tão presente na segunda partida, em terras cariocas.
