Pundit insists Calvert-Lewin would jump at Real Madrid switch

Dean Windass believes Dominic Calvert-Lewin would jump at the chance to join Real Madrid if the Spanish giants submit an official bid.

It has been a summer of change for Everton, with Carlo Ancelotti departing in favour of a return to the Bernabeu and former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez moving into the hotseat.

While Ancelotti has left Merseyside, the Italian has been keeping a close eye on proceedings at Goodison Park and is reportedly mulling over a £50million move for Calvert-Lewin.

The frontman, who reportedly earns £75,000-a-week, enjoyed the best spell of his career under the guidance of Ancelotti and scored 21 goals in 39 appearances last season.

Calvert-Lewin is yet to return for pre-season training after being a member of the England squad which reached the Euro 2020 final before a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy earlier this month.

Although Calvert-Lewin came through the Everton ranks and has made 173 appearances for the Toffees, Windass feels the frontman would be happy to swap Goodison Park for Real Madrid.

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Windass said: “What a great move it would be for the kid.

“He’s proven now. At the end of the day, if Real Madrid come knocking and he’s had that affinity with the manager before, I think he’d jump at the chance.”

Rekeem Harper set to leave West Brom

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Rekeem Harper looks set to depart The Hawthorns this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by the Express & Star, who claim that the 21-year-old is on the brink of joining Ipswich Town after passing a medical with Paul Cook’s side in the last few days.

It is reported that the deal will cost the League One team up to £1m if all clauses are met, with the baseline figure believed to be £500k.

The Express & Star also reveal that the Tractor Boys had originally contacted West Brom regarding the possibility of loaning Harper ahead of next season, before being informed by the Championship club that a permanent deal could be done.

Grave error

Having been a highly-rated part of the West Brom youth setup and first-team for the best part of a decade, the news that Harper looks set to move onto pastures new this summer could well be something of a cause for concern among Baggies fans.

In his breakthrough campaign with the club back in 2018/19, the £2.25m-rated midfielder went on to make 16 Championship appearances, over which he scored one goal, provided one assist and created one big chance for his teammates, earning a seasonal SofaScore rating of 6.60.

These performances saw the former England U19 international linked with a move to the likes of Norwich City and Tottenham Hotspur, however, £8k-per-week youngster eventually committed his future to the Baggies, signing a three-year deal with the club in the summer of 2019.

Over the last two seasons, however, game time has become more limited for the midfielder, with the 21-year-old making just ten Championship appearances in the club’s 2019/20 campaign and a mere two appearances in the Premier League last term.

However, despite this lack of minutes – something that has undoubtedly stifled his development as a footballer – the decision to offload the player whom Slaven Bilic claimed has “no limits” in the game looks to be something of a backwards step for West Brom. With a little more trust placed in him, it would very much appear as if Harper has the talent and ability to become a real star for the club.

Sheffield United handed huge Jebbison boost

Sheffield United were boosted by the news recently that Daniel Jebbison has signed a professional deal at Bramall Lane, which should hopefully keep him with the Blades for a while longer.

The 17-year-old signed his first professional deal alongside fellow academy talents Femi Seriki, Andre Brooks, Jordan Amissah and Oliver Arblaster, with Sheffield United suggesting that they have all been tied down to long-term deals.

Jebbison has burst onto the scene at Bramall Lane in recent weeks, as he was handed his senior debut as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat against Crystal Palace before earning a start for the game against Everton at Goodison Park.

The young Englishman scored the only goal of the game as Paul Heckingbottom’s side picked up an impressive win against the Toffees, and the youngster has unsurprisingly started every game since.

It had seemed as if the teenager could well be on the move this summer, with the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund all reportedly interested.

Blades fans would surely be disappointed to lose such a bright young prospect so early, so will be delighted that he has now signed a long-term deal with the Bramall Lane outfit, one which should hopefully increase the chances of him staying with the club this summer, thus allowing him to make a positive impact in the Championship next season.

There seems no reason why, after a promising few appearances in the Premier League, Jebbison can’t have an impact in the second tier next season and potentially help the Blades challenge for promotion back to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards was full of praise for the youngster recently, saying:

“I really like the look of him. He just gets in the right areas, and they needed that with all the negativity that’s gone on at the club.

“You want to bounce back straight away, and you want to go to the end of the season with positivity.

“They’re playing for pride, and he’s the shining light.”

Therefore, Blades fans will be buzzing that one of the few positives from a disappointing season has committed his long-term future to the club, as he looks to have a very bright future at Bramall Lane.

Everton fans on Rangnick manager update

Many Everton fans have been left to rave as a manager update emerged on Ralf Rangnick.

As per the Daily Telegraph, the Goodison Park faithful are considering the German coach as a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, who has left the Merseyside club to go and manage Real Madrid.

Currently without a club at the moment, Rangnick should be easily obtainable for the Toffees, and the 62-year-old has a lot of experience of managing at the highest level of European football, especially in the Bundesliga.

He has won no fewer than 318 of the 653 games that he has managed (Transfermarkt), giving him a win ratio of just under 50%, which is very impressive considering the number of matches and clubs he has taken charge of.

Rangnick has also won multiple titles as a manager for various different clubs, showing that he is more than capable of delivering silverware, which should appeal to the Blues.

Celtic: Edouard still expected to leave

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is still expected to leave Parkhead despite his move to Leicester City falling through.

The Lowdown: Rumours Edouard could stay at Celtic

Fabrizio Romano revealed in the week that the Foxes have moved on to RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka after failing to agree on a fee with the Hoops for Edouard.

The 23-year-old told friends he would be heading to the King Power to reunite with Brendan Rodgers, however, it seems as if that will not be the case after all.

Reports from the Daily Mail then claimed the French forward is now considering running down his Hoops contract with a view of leaving as a free agent next summer.

The Latest: Source shares update

Football Insider shared a contrary story on Edouard on Saturday morning, claiming West Ham are weighing up a move for the striker.

A source with knowledge informed the site that, despite rumours of Edouard remaining in Glasgow, he is still expected to depart the club ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The Verdict: Hoops must get a respectable fee

If that is the case and Edouard does indeed move on, it is pivotal Celtic still receive a respectable fee for his services – losing such a talented player for nothing could turn out to be a disaster.

Celtic have to hand over 50% of any profit they make on Edouard to Paris Saint-Germain, so every penny over £9m matters, and they will hope the interest from West Ham is joined by more clubs, perhaps prompting a bidding war.

Charlie Wyke appears to be an attacking cut-price target for the Hoops, but should Edouard move, the Hoops may have to use some of the money they receive to bring in another forward for Ange Postecoglou.

Sheffield Wednesday handed Aneke blow

Darren Moore has been handed a blow in terms of his chances of bringing Chuks Aneke to Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

What’s the talk?

According to a statement on the Charlton Athletic website, the Addicks are in discussions with the 27-year-old forward regarding a new contract, with the £360k-rated man’s current deal at The Valley set to expire next month.

The Arsenal academy product had been linked with a move to Hillsborough as recently as Wednesday, with Yorkshire Live claiming that Aneke’s name had been put forward to Moore as a potential summer signing.

Moore will be gutted

With Moore looking likely to have to utilise the loan and free-agent markets this summer as a result of Wednesday’s poor financial situation, should Aneke indeed go on to sign a new deal with Charlton, it will be a gutting blow for the Owls boss.

The forward highly impressed over his 38 League One appearances for the Addicks this season, scoring 15 goals, providing two assists and creating three big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.3 shots and making 0.6 key passes per game, seeing the £5.4k-per-week man earn an average SofaScore match rating of 7.03 – ranking him as the club’s fifth-best performer in the third tier.

As such, the addition of the former England U18 international to the Owls squad ahead of their campaign in the third tier would have undoubtedly provided Moore with a huge boost in mounting a promotion charge, as well as being a deal that would suit the club extremely well financially.

However, with no confirmation coming as yet that the striker – whom Lee Bowyer dubbed as “immense” – has put pen to paper on a new deal at The Valley, there remains a chance that the 27-year-old could still make a switch to Hillsborough – something that Moore must do all he can to convince Aneke of before it is too late.

Gerrard suffers Helander blow

Steven Gerrard’s hopes of keeping Rangers centre-back Filip Helander at Ibrox this summer look to have taken a blow, as recent reports suggest that he wants to test himself in the Premier League.

According to Football Insider, Rangers could sell the Swedish international for £6m this summer, as he wants to play in England.

The former Bologna man has been linked with a move to both Aston Villa and Leicester City in recent months, so it seems as if Gerrard faces a battle to keep one of his top centre-backs at Ibrox ahead of next season.

Whilst the 40-year-old has a plethora of options at the back, with Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun having both impressed there this season, whilst Nikola Katic and Jack Simpson are also likely to become regulars, Helander has been one of the key reasons behind Rangers’ impressive defensive record this season.

The Light Blues have conceded just 12 goals in 35 top-flight fixtures this season with their superb defence one of the main reasons why Gerrard’s side remain unbeaten with just three league games to go.

Helander, who reportedly earns £10k per week at Rangers, has made 21 appearances in the Premiership this campaign, in which he has contributed one goal and averaged an impressive 7.11 average rating.

This ranks him as Gerrard’s seventh-best performer in the top-flight, ahead of every other centre-back option bar Goldson, which emphasises that he would be a big loss should he leave this summer.

There is no guarantee that Katic will return to his former self after his season-long injury, whilst Balogun is 32 and was only handed a one-year extension to his contract by the club recently, so perhaps he isn’t seen as a long-term solution in that position, so unless new signings are brought in, Gerrard could find himself short of quality options at centre-back.

Back in 2019, Gerrard described Helander as a “leader” and the last thing he will want to do before their Champions League campaign next season is lose players that have that quality, so it would undoubtedly be a blow if a Premier League club were to make an official approach for him and turn his head.

[freshpress-quiz id=“593776”]

Considering Helander and Goldson have been the most effective centre-back partnership in this title-winning season, Rangers fans would surely be devastated to see him leave, especially if he departs before they can officially return to Ibrox.

West Ham fans want Emi Buendia signed

Many West Ham United fans want the club to sign Emiliano Buendia this summer after the Irons were linked with his signature.

This campaign has been a magnificent one for the Hammers. As it stands, they are sixth in the Premier League table and are well in with a chance of clinching a spot in Europe. If they do qualify for European competition, it promises to be a busy summer as David Moyes prepares his squad for the step up in quality.

As such, it is being reported the Irons are interested in Norwich winger Buendia (Sunday Mirror, via HITC). The Argentine has been in terrific form in the Championship so far this term, scoring 14 goals and providing 17 assists in 38 matches (Transfermarkt) – that even saw him named as the league’s best player for 2020/21 (BBC).

Given his displays in the second tier this season, many West Ham fans are eager for him to move to the London Stadium. These supporters took to social media platform Twitter to share their thoughts, with one calling for the underwhelming Felipe Anderson to be used as a sweetener in any prospective deal.

Sheffield United suffer Ryan Gauld blow

Sheffield United’s hopes of signing Ryan Gauld this summer have taken a blow after it was revealed that SC Farense have triggered an extension in his contract, meaning he won’t be available on a free transfer as initially thought.

According to TEAMtalk, a number of Premier League and Championship clubs including Sheffield United are considering a move for the former Dundee United youngster this summer.

It had appeared as if the 25-year-old would be free to join any interested side on a Bosman transfer but it has been reported by Portuguese news outlet O Jogo that SC Farense had an option to extend his contract by another year, which they have unsurprisingly triggered ahead of the summer.

However, it still seems extremely likely that Gauld will depart considering Farense were relegated from the Portuguese top-flight this season, with the report from O Jogo suggesting that his release clause is just €4m (£3.5m).

Gauld moved from Dundee United to Sporting Lisbon when he was 18-years-old and whilst things wouldn’t work out for the youngster at Estadio José Alvalade, as he made just five appearances, he has emphasised his quality during his time with Farense.

In 71 appearances for the Lions of Faro, the Scottish midfielder has contributed  20 goals and 12 assists, so it is easy to see why he is attracting interest from the Premier League.

His performances this season were particularly impressive, as he managed nine goals and seven assists in 33 league appearances, helping him earn a superb 7.19 rating from WhoScored.

Given that Sheffield United were the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season with a shocking 20 goals in 38 league fixtures, it is clear that they will need to add some serious attacking quality this summer if they want to secure an immediate return to the top-flight and Gauld could have been the perfect link between midfield and attack.

Unfortunately, now that the “fantastic” 25-year-old is not available on a free transfer, it will be much harder for Blades sporting director Jan van Winckel to do a deal for Gauld this summer, which is a big blow to their hopes of improving the squad ahead of next season.

LFC fans don’t want Reds to sign Konate

A number of Liverpool supporters don’t want the Reds to sign Ibrahima Konate due to the defender’s injury history, after it was revealed that RB Leipzig will expect the full sum up front for a move to happen.

Jurgen Klopp is expected to make at least one centre-back addition at the end of the season, in order to freshen up that area of the pitch after a campaign riddled with issues there.

Ozan Kabak could possibly join permanently after impressing on loan, but it could be that another central defender also makes the move to Anfield.

Both Joe Gomez and Joel Matip seem to pick up injuries at a worrying rate, while Virgil van Dijk will be returning from cruciate ligament damage.

Someone who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool is Konate, having caught the eye for RB Leipzig in recent times.

The 21-year-old has an injury history of his own, however, which is putting a number of a fans off the idea of him heading to Merseyside, following fresh reports over his future.
