Franco Mastantuono has admitted that Lamine Yamal is currently winning the battle of the Clasico teenagers, but warns he is still developing following his arrival from River Plate in the summer. The Argentine has now spoken openly about his struggles with the pubalgia injury that has disrupted him in recent weeks and has also been troubling Barcelona’s Yamal.

Mastantuono’s promising start halted by early-season injury

The Argentine arrived at Real Madrid this summer in a €45 million ($53m/£39m) move from River Plate. At just 18, he was seen as one of the most promising South American talents of his generation. Madrid moved quickly for him, convinced his profile and style fit perfectly with manager Xabi Alonso's structure. He made his debut on the opening weekend of the season against Osasuna and settled in quicker than expected. While he has contributed only one goal and one assist in his 12 appearances so far, the Madrid boss was more impressed with his overall play and his ability to find spaces, which made him a regular starter in the absence of Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga.

However, Mastantuono has struggled with discomfort as Real Madrid confirmed signs of pubalgia, a groin and lower abdominal injury known for being unpredictable.

Speaking on , Mastantuono opened up about the injury and how the pain developed. He said the issue didn’t appear overnight but grew slowly until it reached a point he couldn’t ignore.

"I'm working hard to recover and be back on the pitch, which is the best part. I'm feeling much better now," the Argentine said. "It was a pain I'd been dealing with for a while. It was time to slow down and recover properly so I could be at 100%. This club demands it. I'll be back playing soon."

He revealed the pain actually began while he was still at River Plate. "It started in the second game of the Club World Cup with River and it bothered me more and more until I had to stop because of the pain."

Mastantuono opens up on growing Yamal rivalry

The young winger also opened up about his comparison with Yamal, and how their rivalry could possibly define the next decade of El Clasico. The 18-year-old said he does not enjoy direct comparisons, but he understands why the discussion exists. "I don't like comparisons, but it's always nice to have rivals of Lamine's caliber, from Barcelona, from Spain. It motivates you to be even better. I hope it can stay this way for a long time, until the end of my career." 

When asked who is better right now, he was straightforward. "Today, Lamine. He's showing an incredible level, but I've just arrived at Real Madrid, I'm in an adaptation process that I hope will be quick so I can get up to speed in Europe and at Real Madrid. I hope it's a long story to tell, with many matches like the last one we played, which was incredible."

Pubalgia, often called a sports hernia, is one of the toughest injuries for players who depend on agility and explosive movement. It affects the connection between the abdominal and adductor muscles, and recovery can vary from week to week. Wingers and attacking players who twist and sprint repeatedly are especially vulnerable.

It is also an injury that cannot be rushed. If a player returns too soon, the pain usually comes back even stronger. Yamal is dealing with the same issue at Barcelona and has been in and out of the squad this season due to the injury. Athletic Club's Nico Williams has managed it recently, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has also faced similar problems this season.

Mastantuono's progress has been steady, but Los Blancos are taking a cautious approach and have not yet set a timeline for his return. According to reports, there is quite optimism he could return towards the end of December. Still, the club won't rush him. Alonso wants him fully fit for a demanding January schedule, where Madrid will need depth on the wings.

Chelsea captain Millie Bright made history after breaking the Women's Super League appearances record in her side's 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Sunday. Initially, it looked like the former England international would enjoy a day of celebration over playing her 211th game in the division but Alyssa Thompson's opener was cancelled out by Beata Olsson's individual effort.

Plaudits pour in for Bright

Before Bright broke the WSL appearance record, which would take her past the previous mark held by former England team-mate Jordan Nobbs, former Chelsea manager and current United States women's team boss Emma Hayes heaped praise on her former charge. The 32-year-old, who won a hatful of trophies with Hayes over the past decade, was hailed as "superhuman" and one of the most determined people she had ever met. 

Hayes told Sky Sports: "It's what she puts herself through. I mean, she's like a superhuman. She's an iron lady. She is so diligent. She'll do everything she possibly can to stay on the pitch. I think she's one of the most persevering people I've ever met. Demanding as a leader, drives the team, like absolutely drives the team. Fans and everybody else might not see the impact she has when she's on the pitch for the team, but she's immense as a leader. She's colossal. And a big softy, big heart, big softy. I think, I mean, that's an unbelievable achievement. Another one for her, like she's got, she's done so much in her time, the amount of winning, just truly remarkable."

When asked if Bright challenged Hayes, she replied, "Yeah, every day. Every player challenges me. That's what they do. Sometimes they want a decision that's taken or something that's happened. That's part and parcel, like building the right relationships so that they can say those things. And it's not perfect. I've made millions of mistakes, and there's lots of things that do not get right. But someone like Millie, I've listened to and I trust her perspective, and she'll always be straight up with me. And I've always valued that."

Former Lionesses ace Izzy Christiansen believes that Bright shares similar qualities on the football pitch as Chelsea legend John Terry. The ex-Everton player also stated the defender deserves more credit for what she has achieved.

"I think she's really impressed me over the last 10 years of her career in terms of the consistency. Since joining Chelsea, she's settled in so well, taking on the armband, taking on a huge role," she said. "I don't think people give her enough credit for how hard it is to continuously win and drive the standard. She's been very vocal that she is the person sometimes who suffers because she's driving standards every day, and that's what it takes to win. There's a bit of John Terry about her."

Former Scotland international Rachel Corsie added: "When you're in that role for such a long time as captain, you're always second to the team. It's a huge task, and she's done it with huge respect from, I think, everyone in the game. I think she does drive those standards that, for me, the reason Chelsea have been so successful is because, psychologically, they have that little bit extra than everyone else, where they just know the most important thing is winning at all costs, and we see them do that in so many different ways."

Bright struggles on historic day

On another day, Bright's record-breaking appearance would have been the headline story. But the experienced centre-back had an uncharacteristically shaky performance in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with lowly Liverpool at St Helens Stadium. Wright was outpaced by Olsson for Liverpool's goal and was subbed off at half-time for Naomi Girma. The Blues extended their unbeaten WSL run to 34 matches but the scenes at full-time were not one of celebration for Sonia Bompastor's side. The Frenchwoman will hope her skipper gets back to her best soon as they now sit three points behind league leaders Manchester City after nine games.

Chelsea face, arguably, the toughest task in women's domestic football when they host Barcelona in the Champions League on Thursday night. The Spanish side destroyed the Blues in the semi-finals of the competition last season, so Bompastor's team will be seeking revenge this time out.

Erling Haaland gave yet another reminder of his monstrous goalscoring powers as he scored twice in Manchester City's 3-1 win over Bournemouth, and afterwards the Cherries' boss Andoni Iraola and captain David Brooks admitted there was almost nothing they could do to stop him. Haaland drew a rare blank in last week's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa but responded in a typically ruthless fashion.

  The City striker produced a lung-bursting run from behind the halfway-line after latching on to a Rayan Cherki header to slot the hosts in front and combined with the French playmaker again to restore their lead after Tyler Adams had equalised. Haaland has 13 Premier League goals in 10 matches this season, with 17 in 13 games in all competitions. Including his goals for Norway since the season began, he is on 26 strikes.

  Bournemouth captain Brooks told : "We look to press but Manchester City are extremely comfortable on the ball. In the first half we created a lot of opportunities for ourselves through the press. But the big man up top for them – Haaland – is always going to be a threat. It's almost impossible [to prepare to face Haaland]. He's 6ft 5in, strong, a massive threat when the ball is falling to him. He took his chances well.

  "It was always going to be a tough game against Manchester City. It's probably the hardest week to prepare for. We knew we had to come here and be the best version of ourselves. A few minor details cost us today."

  Iraola: 'You're not recovering from Haaland'

  Head coach Iraola added: "In the first half they punished us with Haaland behind our defensive line, probably the coordination between the centre-backs was not spot on. The first goal we were in a good moment before the goal, we were playing in their half but in our attacks we lose the ball, we jump, we don’t cover in behind and he punishes us. You make the smallest mistakes and they punish you. 

  "The timing the speed was top class. You sit deeper and maybe Haaland scores two headers at the second post because maybe they have 25 crosses. You lose one metre against Haaland, you are not recovering. It is going to be three metres at the end of the play."

• Guardiola puts Haaland on same level as Messi & Ronaldo

  Pep Guardiola put Haaland on the same pedestal as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and said the Norwegian was so dominant that it didn't matter that City's other forwards were not contributing many goals this season. No City player aside from Haaland has scored more than one Premier League goal this season.

  "It's a little like when you play with Messi or Cristiano," Guardiola said. "The influence is so big. Of course we need the goals from Phil [Foden] and Tijjani [Reijnders] and the other ones." 

  Asked whether Haaland was truly on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo, Guardiola had no doubts at all. "Has he reached that level? You see the numbers of that guy? Oh my God, yeah, of course he's at their level. So the numbers from Cristiano and Messi have been for 15 years. You see Messi still in MLS, he scores two or three goals every day. Cristiano in Saudi is the same. But he [Haaland] is at that level.  

  "The first goal, the way he shoots the ball, going down on the grass [saying] 'I am going to score this'. I have said many times, he is incredibly coachable and I am tough with him sometimes. I always try to be open minded with him and there are players who say, ‘What are you talking about?' He is completely down to earth, he wants to do it and he lives for the goals. Without him, it would be tough to be honest."

For the first time since clinching a second successive European Championship title back in July, England's Lionesses return to action this week, beginning their 'homecoming series' which will take the team around the country as they celebrate the summer's incredible triumph with as many fans as possible. It starts in Manchester on Saturday against Brazil, the South American champions, and moves onto Derby three days later, where Australia will be the visitors, before resuming in November with two more friendlies.

These final two international camps of 2025 are not just an opportunity for the Lionesses to show off that Euros trophy, though. Ahead of qualifying for the 2027 Women's World Cup beginning in the New Year, Sarina Wiegman can use these four friendlies to experiment a little and see some new players, with there three names in this month's squad who have accepted senior call-ups for England for the first time.

To an extent, there is a need to experiment, too, as Wiegman is missing a number of key players this month. That's particularly the case at centre-back, as Leah Williamson is still sidelined with a knee issue picked up during Euro 2025 and Millie Bright has just this month called time on her international career, and in the forward line, with Lauren James also still working her way back from an injury sustained during the Euros title run, Lauren Hemp having suffered a knock to her ankle last month that rules her out of this camp and the in-form Jess Park, who looked set to provide a solution amid those absentees, a late withdrawal from the squad.

So, what should England fans be looking out for this month? GOAL picks out six things to keep an eye on as the Lionesses return to action:

Going into Euro 2025, the centre-forward pecking order felt quite clear. Alessia Russo was England's starting No.9, with Aggie Beever-Jones second in line and Michelle Agyemang, something of a wildcard inclusion by Wiegman, adding to the options. However, Agyemang's impressive impact in the Lionesses' first group-stage game changed everything, with the teenager able to leapfrog Beever-Jones in the depth chart over the course of the tournament, something she justified by scoring in the quarter- and semi-finals.

How, then, does that look as England return to action for the first time since the Euros? Russo's position will not change but, with Wiegman likely to use the friendlies to rotate and experiment, both Beever-Jones and Agyemang will be out to show what they can do and why they should be the manager's first port of call from the bench. The latter may feel like she has the edge after the Euros, but Beever-Jones is in electric form as the top-scoring Englishwoman in the Women's Super League so far this season.

Maya Le Tissier has been an unused sub in 12 of England's 13 games in 2025, and yet she comes into this camp as one of the main talking points. That's because, upon unveiling her squad for October, Wiegman once again reiterated that she sees the Manchester United captain as a right-back, not at centre-back, despite her only playing the former position once since joining the Red Devils back in 2022, as the club's social media admin, somewhat incredibly, was keen to point out shortly after those comments were made.

That United employee is not alone in thinking Wiegman's perspective is strange, though. Arsenal icon Ian Wright, a regular pundit in the women's game, described Le Tissier as the "most consistent English [centre-back] in the league" after seeing the Lionesses' boss' quotes. "I don't understand," he added.

It's even more of a talking point this month, given the absence of Williamson and Bright's retirement. With Alex Greenwood seemingly, and deservedly, England's first-choice left-sided centre-back, there is a gap on the right to be filled in this camp, if not also in the next, depending on Williamson's recovery. Many believe Le Tissier should get the chance to play there, but it seems more likely that she adds to her eight England appearances by playing the same position she did for her sole cap in 2025, at right-back.

When Mary Earps made the surprise decision to call time on her England career just a few weeks before Euro 2025 began, many wondered – and some even expected – Wiegman to give a shot-stopper other than Hannah Hampton a run out before the Lionesses headed to Switzerland. After all, neither Khiara Keating nor Anna Moorhouse, who completed the goalkeeping unit in the Euros squad, had a cap to their name. However, despite having three opportunities to do so, Wiegman didn't, with both still awaiting their senior England debuts at this point.

It was understandable in two of those pre-tournament fixtures, as the Lionesses took on Portugal and Spain in the Nations League. The clash with the former ended 6-0, making it seem like a good chance to play Keating or Moorhouse in hindsight, but the reverse fixture saw England held to a frustrating 1-1 draw, so it was not expected to play out like that, while the latter was a meeting with the world champions. That Wiegman stuck with Hampton for the Lionesses' friendly against Jamaica at the end of June was more surprising, though it did also make some sense for consistency going into the Euros.

These next two camps, then, really feel like the chance for Keating or Moorhouse to get out on the pitch. England have two years to build up to the next World Cup and they will not want to be in a situation for that tournament where only one of their goalkeepers is capped. The Lionesses' November fixtures are a little more favourable in terms of easing a shot-stopper in, as China and Ghana are weaker opponents than Brazil and Australia, but at the end of the day, all of these games are friendlies and Wiegman has to give games to other goalkeepers sooner rather than later.

Despite being the hero of Euro 2025 (and Euro 2022), Chloe Kelly is still trying to force her way into Wiegman's first-choice XI. Yet, it doesn't feel like she comes into this camp primed to make a statement in her quest to do so.

Kelly ended the 2024-25 season in flying form on loan at Arsenal and looked set to continue that when she made her move to the Gunners permanent over the summer, especially after such a special Euros. However, the forward has only accumulated 234 minutes across the club's first eight games of the season.

It appears part of the reason why could be fitness related, as Kelly has had noticeable strapping on her knee a few times in recent weeks, with her also not in the squad for Arsenal's second game of the season due to a knock. But her ability to impact games remains evident, with her providing a fantastic assist for the Gunners' last goal before the international break after a quick and clever free-kick teed up Russo against Benfica.

Is she able to build on that during this camp? Kelly could really use the minutes, as she looks to properly get her 2025-26 season up and running, and the absences of all of James, Hemp, Park and even Grace Clinton, another player who can play out wide but withdrew after the squad announcement with injury, could pave the way for her to get quite a few.

Newcastle United are circling the market for reinforcements and could now be set to go all out for a defender they have wanted since the start of the window.

Newcastle United set to sign Yoane Wissa

With hours of the window remaining, Alexander Isak will join Liverpool from Newcastle, leaving a vacancy through the middle free for Eddie Howe to bring in a new striker.

In light of reports linking the Magpies to several different options, Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is the one that will pitch up at St James’ Park after the Bees accepted an offer for the Congolese marksman.

Now set for a medical before an official announcement is made, he will join new signing Nick Woltemade, with both set to fight it out for the number one jersey at the top end of the field.

Reacting to a goalless draw at the weekend, Howe made it clear that his side aren’t offensively proficient at this moment in time, which may offer a hint as to why they have made such a strong late play for another striker.

He told BBC Sport: “We’re disappointed the other way that we didn’t cause them more problems. We had a few moments that you think could’ve led to more. We’re just in that moment where the goals aren’t flowing and that cost us today.”

Newcastle submit loan offer for Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde

According to reports in Turkey via Sport Witness, Newcastle have submitted a loan-to-buy offer for Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde. However, the proposal has been rejected by the Turkish giants.

Intriguingly, the Magpies have been interested in Oosterwolde since June, when he was identified as a cheaper option to Marc Guehi, albeit landing him may be a complicated process after Diego Carlos was ruled out with an injury.

Capable of featuring in central defence or at left-back, the Zwolle-born man has previously been praised for his “extremely physically strong” nature by agent, Jose Blakborn, and he has featured six times for his current employers this season.

Three years remain on his deal in Istanbul, so he retains plenty of value even if the 24-year-old were to agitate for a move, leaving work to be done from a Newcastle perspective if they are to force something over the line.

Stranger things have happened, though PIF will need to move swiftly in order to convince Fenerbahce that he is a player worth parting ways with.

Situação idêntica a de Patrick. O atacante, titular absoluto do Tricolor na última temporada, acabou se transferindo para o Atlético-MG no fim de janeiro por R$ 8 milhões. O acordo seria de pelo menos uma parcela de R$ 1 milhão até o fim do primeiro trimestre. O que também não teria sido cumprido.

Fontes da cúpula são-paulina falaram ao L! que a postura do Tricolor seguirá sendo a do diálogo para tentar resolver a situação. Apelam ao bom senso. Mas existe alas internas do Morumbi que já querem judicializar as questões.

Procurado pela reportagem, o Vasco não quis se posicionar. Alega que ‘não comenta esse tipo de assunto’.

Ao L!, fontes do Atlético-MG reconheceram a dívida com o São Paulo e revelaram que querem uma reunião em breve com os paulistas para tratar sobre o assunto.

Vale lembrar que o próprio São Paulo já passou por isso esta temporada. No início de março, o Tricolor atrasou parte dos pagamentos da primeira parcela dos R$ 5 milhões que terá que desembolsar ao Atlético-GO por 80% dos direitos federativos do ponta Wellington Rato.

A situação dos atrasos ao elenco são-paulino foi motivo de fala até do coordenador técnico Muricy Ramalho, que ao canal ‘Arnaldo e Tirone’ mostrou apoio à insatisfação dos jogadores, mas vê a diretoria ‘atuante em resolver a questão’.

– É muito ruim, você trabalhar e não receber, é a pior coisa do mundo. Os jogadores estão entendendo. A gente não sossega enquanto não consegue pagar. O presidente foi atrás hoje mesmo disso. Você paga um aqui, dois ali. É uma loucura o que o Casares passa. Nós mostramos a dificuldade e que estamos indo atrás. Não estamos com má vontade. Temos que pagar muitas dívidas. Semana passada foi pago alguma coisa, essa semana vai ser de novo.

Inter Miami let a first-half lead slip and were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Toronto FC, a result that dealt a significant blow to their Supporters’ Shield ambitions. Javier Mascherano’s side looked tired as the match wore on, and though they left Canada with a point, the dropped opportunity highlighted their struggle to finish strong.

Tadeo Allende's header in the 45th minute was canceled out by a tidy tap in from Djordje Mihailovic in the 60th minute, and despite late efforts, Miami couldn't find a go-ahead goal. Lionel Messi came close after 30 minutes, cutting onto his right foot before drawing an acrobatic save out of Sean Johnson from the top of the box. It was otherwise a chaotic first half of soccer, both sides struggling to create and combine. 

And then, it came alive. Johnson provided another big moment on the stroke of half time, saving low from Messi's whipped effort. Allende broke things open in stoppage time, finishing a sweeping Miami move with a close range header. 

rather took their foot off the gas in the second half, and let the home side back into it. Accordingly, Toronto responded on the hour mark. Richie Laryea cut back for Mihailovic, who couldn't miss from six yards out. Miami pushed for a winner as the game wore on. Messi stung Johnson's palms from open play. He did so again from a free kick. But a winner never came, and Miami will head home with merely a point. And they didn't deserve any more.

Didn't have much to do in the first half. Could do nothing about Toronto's equalizer. 

Ian Fray (7/10):

Tucked into more of a center back role when Miami attacked. Held his side down. 

Maxi Falcon (6/10):

Good in his 1v1s. Looks far more comfortable when games are slowed down a bit. 

Noah Allen (6/10):

Calm on the ball. Covered the left side when Alba scampered forward. Lost his man on the Toronto goal, though. 

Jordi Alba (7/10):

Handled his defensive duties effectively. Combined with Messi, as per usual. Assisted Miami's opener with a lovely cross.

Took his goal well – even if it was put on a plate. Didn't have many touches otherwise.

Sergio Busquets (7/10):

As classy as usual in his first game since announcing his plan to retire at the end of the season. Controlled spaces, won his tackles, and circulated the ball effectively. Hooked on 70 minutes to keep his legs intact. 

Rodrigo De Paul (7/10):

An industrious midfield display. Up for the scrap, played forward, and gives this team an extra attacking dimension. 

Baltasar Rodriguez (7/10):

Saw a shot well denied early on and was full of life. Covered a lot of ground defensively. Looked tired after an hour and was hooked.

Full of little moments of magic from the first minute. Set up his teammates, saw a string of strong efforts saved. Might've had a hat trick on another day.

Luis Suarez (5/10):

Tried to run a lot despite looking unable to for long stretches. Up to his usual antics of irritating defenders. Ineffective, all said.

Bangladesh only managed to post 106 for 3 in 20 overs, the lowest total made by a side batting their full quota for a loss of three or fewer wickets in a T20 World Cup game. For a large part of the chase, South Africa barely scored at over a run a ball and finally completed their win with just 16 balls to spare; only Tazmin Brits (42 off 41)and Chloe Tryon (14 off 13) scored at a strike rate in excess of 100.Captain Laura Wolvaardt lost the toss but was happy to bat second to “control NRR while chasing”. At the end of the evening, though, South Africa’s net run rate dipped from 1.527 to 1.382, and they will be left watching nervously as England and West Indies complete their league fixtures over the next few days.Maximum intent, minimum runsYou could not fault Bangladesh’s batting approach after they chose to bat. In the last two overs, Bangladesh managed to score 23 with Nigar hitting a four and running well between the wickets with Shorna Akter. The pair managed six doubles in the last two overs of the innings to help Bangladesh cross 100.Brits shoulders the South African chaseBrits got off to a fast start, hitting three fours in the first two overs as South Africa were 17 for 0 in two overs. Wolvaardt managed to flick one to the right of mid-on and beat deep midwicket to her left to open her boundary count, using her feet in a bid to put legspinner Fahima Khatun off. But Fahima managed to exact revenge next ball, lobbing one up and deceiving Wolvaardt in flight to get her stump.Nahida Akter managed to draw a few false strokes – including a leading edge off Brits – in the fourth over while Fahima beat Anneke Bosch twice with a slider. Brits and Bosch could not break free and the pressure almost did the trick for Bangladesh. But Fahima could not hang on to a simple offering at deep midwicket when Brits slogged one straight at her, and parried it away for four. Brits was on a run-a-ball 21 at that point. The next three overs went for 21 before Fahima came back to dismiss Bosch.By then, Brits had gotten in and South Africa were in control. So much so that even her dismissal in the 14th over did not send jitters in the South African camp. Kapp and Tryon added the finishing touches, even without much swag, to get the job done. South Africa have the points but they will be on the edge concerning their NRR, just the scenario they had set out to avoid when the game began.
