Cunha’s arrival at Old Trafford is a big boost for Amorim heading into next season, as the Brazilian will no doubt improve United’s attacking options, and he appears to be the perfect player to fit into Amorim’s system, given his versatility in the forward line.

However, to ensure they sign someone who’d be their best striker since Aubameyang, the Gunners might want someone even more prolific than the Guinea international, someone like Viktor Gyokeres.

According to a recent report from Monday’s print edition of Portuguese outlet O Jogo, as relayed by Football Transfers, Arsenal have made massive progress in their pursuit of the Swedish international.

In fact, the report goes a step further, revealing that the North Londoners have struck a €65m – £55m – deal with Sporting ‘to sign the striker’ and that they will ‘officially complete the signing’ next week.

It’s a lot of money to spend on a forward from outside a top-five league, but given Gyokeres’ simply unreal record, it looks like it’ll be money well spent, especially as he could be the club’s best nine since Aubameyang.

Tottenham chiefs believe that they need to sign more experienced players to balance out their very youthful squad (Sami Mokbel), and Sane’s status as a soon-to-be free agent opens the door for Levy to provide Ange Postecoglou (or any new manager) with that calibre of signing at zero transfer cost.

The main obstacle would be Sane’s extortionate wage demands. Sky and Sport Bild, via Tribuna, believe they equate to a £192,000-per-week fixed salary, plus £2.5 million in performance-related bonuses and a signing-on fee.

This would make Sane their highest-paid player above Son Heung-min, and if they don’t fancy agreeing to terms of that nature, Tottenham’s need for experienced players could push them to other targets.

Another player of a similar mould to Sane, Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, has also been heavily linked in the build up to June 1.

The 26-year-old guided Palace to their first ever major trophy, scoring the FA Cup final-winning goal against Man City at Wembley, and his rise to the top suggests that he’s a player with an elite mentality following a previous spell at Arsenal’s acadmey as a youngster.

It is unclear which Lilywhites players would be offered up in this scenario, but Spurs’ serious interest is worrying Palace, who are trying to tie Eze down with a new contract.

Postecoglou is already well aware of the attacking midfielder’s quality, with Eze scoring both goals in a 2-0 Palace win away to Tottenham towards the end of 2024/2025 and giving them nightmares throughout that game.

Alongside Spurs, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Bayern Munich are named as contenders for the ex-QPR star, so he isn’t exactly short of suitors. Privately, though, Eze is reluctant to force a move, given how content he’s been at Selhurst Park.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, despite reports to the contrary, the 22-year-old’s release clause is actually £53 million.

Nevertheless, Sport’s information is that Arsenal are ready to pay the £53 million for Williams, and are making “real moves” by knocking on his door. Berta is also ready to offer the Spain international a marquee salary, but there is an err of caution, as Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are prepared to do exactly the same.

Arteta also confirmed in a press conference that he wants the £200,000-per-week veteran to remain right where he is, after what was arguably his best-ever season at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are currently determined not to increase their initial offer, so talks are now at a roadblock and in serious danger of collapsing.

Arteta will be hoping for a swift resolution. Even taking into account the pending arrival of Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi, who’s still expected to join Arsenal with a deal agreed, the Gunners are poised to be a star midfielder short if Partey does leave, given Jorginho’s free transfer to Flamengo.

Arteta needs a rejuvenated and star-studded squad if he wishes to close the gap on English champions Liverpool, and losing Partey would be a disastrous summer blow ahead of what is a crucial campaign for Arsenal’s head coach.

The pressure is truly on for him to win a piece of major silverware, five years after their FA Cup final triumph in 2020, so keeping a player of Partey’s quality/experience is a must.
